My name is Kelly Riggs.

I am a functional potter, working in my home studio, making pots intended to celebrate every day life. My Clay journey began over twenty years ago with the gift of a pottery class. I studied from some of Richmond’s best ceramic artists at locally known venues such as Richmond Pottery, John Tyler, and The Visual Arts Center.

Drawing inspiration from nature and still life paintings, My work is simple and straightforward— focusing on its future use and letting what it contains shine through. My pots do not feel complete until they contain something: Fresh flowers, acorns, shells collected from a nature walk, or brimming with fresh fruit. Containment connects maker to user, in real time and place, and fosters community. I am passionate about making pots people choose to use, hopefully, everyday.

My work is available in more places than just my website! I vend on select dates at the GrowRVA Farmer’s Market in Richmond, Virginia which takes place in the spacious and beautiful Bryan Park. Additionally my work can be found at The Olive Oil taproom in Midlothian, Virginia and The Artists Gallery at Virginia Beach Art Center in The Vibe district of Virginia Beach.
